ITASCAP was founded to help Sierra Leoneans take part in their own capital market. We were early. We learned what holds local investors back, and we have rebuilt our services around it.
Our story
Seventeen years of working at the point where local savings, local enterprise and financial regulation meet.
- 2007The law opens a doorAmendments to the Other Financial Services Act made room for stock exchanges and for licensed investment advisers, dealers, brokers and fund managers in Sierra Leone.
- 2009ITASCAP is incorporatedWe registered ITASCAP (SL) Limited in Freetown to be ready for the market those reforms promised.
- 2010Licensed, and first to marketThe Bank of Sierra Leone granted us a Fund Management Licence, and we launched the Harvest Fund, the country's first mutual fund.
- 2016An honest resetThe wider capital market grew more slowly than expected and the costs of running a paper-based fund outweighed its scale. We wound the Harvest Fund up in an orderly way, returned investors' money, and concentrated on advisory and consulting work.
- TodayBack, with better toolsDigital registries and investor portals now make it affordable to run well-governed investment companies at the scale Sierra Leone needs. We are relaunching our investment services on that foundation, starting with project-led Private Investment Companies.
What we believe
Local ownership, global partnersForeign investment is valuable. Sierra Leoneans should be able to invest alongside it as equals, not only as nominal partners.
